Petitgrain Water has a crisp, revitalizing, cleansing aroma and is suitable for all skin types. Born with the celebrated siblings Neroli and Bitter Orange, petitgrain is known to the world as emotionally harmonizing oil. The essential oil of petitgrain is extracted from the leaves and twigs, where Neroli oil is extracted from the flowers and Bitter Orange oil is extracted from the rind of the fruits of the Bitter Orange tree. Trusted for attaining clarity of mind and mental wellness, petitgrain essential oil has been used in Ayurveda as excellent massage oil for treating inflamed tissues, muscular spasms and lymphatic damage.

Petitgrain is produced by steam distilling the leaves and small branches of citrus trees after the harvest of fruit.  The yield is 0.25-0.5%. The most important of the petitgrain oils comes from the Bitter Orange tree. Paraguay is a big producer.  Higher quality petitgrain comes from France and Italy. Petitgrain has a strong, bittersweet, floral and somewhat woody odor, sometimes vegetative (bad), dry and a bit leathery.

It is important to mention that the trace components in petitgrain lead to a good scent and especially in perfumery where they are important when the scent needs to be reconstituted. The petitgrain is distilled from the leaves and twig let’s when the fruit is pea-sized.

Although petitgrain is extracted from the leaves of the tree but at a time it was extracted from the green and small unripe fruits. These fruits were about the size of cherries and so the name petitgrain (also meaning little grain) was given to this oil. Mostly this is used as an active ingredient in many pharmaceutical and perfumery products.

Petitgrain is an essential oil derived from the leaves of the bitter orange tree, and it often comes from Paraguay. Most generally describe petit grain's fragrance as citrus-like, with hints of woody and floral aromas. It is widely used in colognes and perfumes as well as skin cleansers and other types of soap.
